Domestic Violence Perpetrator Jailed for Threats and Intimidation

UPDATE: A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 months in jail following a series of domestic violence offenses that spanned three years. The ruling was delivered in Orange Local Court on July 31, 2025, where the perpetrator appeared via audio-video link from custody.

The convict was already behind bars when he was sentenced for breaching apprehended domestic violence orders (ADVOs) and intimidating his ex-partner. His threats included a chilling warning: “I’ve got people that are coming for you.” These incidents took place between 2020 and 2023, with the man previously serving a sentence for a death threat made in 2019.

Authorities report that the man violated ADVOs multiple times, including a significant breach on April 7, 2020, when police found him hiding under a vehicle after fleeing from a protected person’s car in Bathurst. The woman, who was driving, had attempted to seek police assistance during a heated argument. When she informed him she was taking him to the police station instead of another address, he refused to exit the vehicle, leading to his arrest.

The court heard distressing details of the man’s behavior, including multiple instances of sending threatening messages to his ex-partner, even during the holidays when he texted her children. His pattern of intimidation included threats to report the woman to child services, alleging inappropriate behavior towards her children.

Despite his solicitor, Georgia Campbell, asserting that these incidents did not involve actual violence, the court underscored the severity of the breaches. Magistrate Gary Wilson emphasized the ongoing nature of the offenses and the significant emotional toll on the victims, particularly with children involved.

In addition to the jail time, the court imposed a 10-month non-parole period, meaning the man could potentially be released on March 4, 2026. The court noted that despite prior claims of rehabilitation, the man had repeatedly violated court orders, raising concerns about public safety and the well-being of the victims.

This case highlights the urgent need for effective interventions in domestic violence situations, as the ripple effects of such intimidation can be devastating for victims and their families. As authorities continue to address domestic violence, this sentencing serves as a reminder of the justice system’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals.

The community is urged to stay vigilant and report any acts of intimidation or violence to ensure that victims receive the support they need.
