Melbourne Launches 641 New Bus Services Starting October 5

UPDATE: Starting October 5, families in Melbourne’s northern suburbs will benefit from 641 additional bus services aimed at enhancing local transport options. This urgent upgrade impacts eight major routes including Craigieburn, Donnybrook, Kalkallo, and Roxburgh Park, according to the Victorian state government.

These new services will provide critical connections for students, shift workers, and late-night commuters. Notably, Route 543 will see an impressive 183 extra weekly trips, starting earlier and running later into the night. This route will now connect Greenvale and Greenvale North to Craigieburn Central and Roxburgh Park Station, with buses scheduled to run every 20 minutes during peak weekday hours.

Moreover, Route 524 will receive 173 new services, extending along Cloverton Boulevard to Kalkallo, linking passengers to Donnybrook Station and the Kallo Town Centre. Other routes, including 525, 528, 529, 533, and 537, will gain an additional 285 weekly trips with some services operating until midnight.

Public and Active Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams emphasized the significance of these improvements, stating, “We understand the importance of frequent and eligible bus services for the growing communities in Melbourne’s north.” She added that the changes are designed to improve local connections significantly.

Local MP Ros Spence described the initiative as a “massive boost for local students, shoppers, and commuters.” Meanwhile, Lauren Kathage, MP for Yan Yean, highlighted the benefits of the 524 extension for families, ensuring better accessibility to essential services.

Residents of Beveridge will also see enhancements, with Route 511 now running via the Hume Highway to Craigieburn Station. The service is expected to expand further next year, introducing more frequent buses and a broader coverage area.

For those looking to plan their travel, detailed timetables and routes will be available starting September 19 at transport.vic.gov.au.

These upgrades are not just about increased frequency; they represent a pivotal shift in public transport accessibility in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, making it easier for residents to reach work, school, and other vital destinations. The community can expect a transformative impact on daily travel, enhancing the quality of life for countless families.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as the rollout approaches.
