Tim Burton and Monica Bellucci have officially announced the end of their two-year relationship. The renowned director and the acclaimed Italian actress released a joint statement on September 19, 2025, confirming their separation. The statement expressed mutual respect and care, stating, “It is with much respect and deep care for each other that Monica Bellucci and Tim Burton have decided to part ways.”
The couple first met in 2006 but reconnected at the Lumiere Film Festival in France in 2022. Their relationship became public in 2023 when Bellucci opened up about their connection. In an interview with Elle France, she reflected on their bond, saying, “What can I say… I’m glad I met the man, first of all. It’s one of those encounters that rarely happens in life.”
Bellucci, who stars in Burton’s upcoming film Beetlejuice, shared her admiration for him, stating, “I love Tim. And I have great respect for Tim Burton.” She plays the character Delores, the ex-wife of Michael Keaton’s titular character in the sequel to the 1988 cult classic.
In her interview, Bellucci expressed her excitement about joining Burton’s creative world: “Tim is an artist and he knows how to make situations that are fantastic and horrific and comic and emotional all at the same time.” She acknowledged his influence on her character development, describing Delores as “a creature” that embodies both charm and menace.
The 67-year-old director has two children, Billy, 21, and Nell, 17, from his previous relationship with actress Helena Bonham Carter. Reflecting on Bellucci, Burton previously described her as “a very special person” in an interview with The Times.
While the split marks the end of their romantic involvement, both Burton and Bellucci have expressed a profound appreciation for their time together and the artistic journeys they shared. As they move forward, each continues to pursue their respective careers in the entertainment industry, with Bellucci’s role in Beetlejuice set to showcase her talents later in 2024.
