CATL and Springer Nature Launch Watt Journal for Energy Research

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) and Springer Nature have announced the launch of a new international journal called Watt, which aims to connect scientific research with industry practices in the fields of energy and carbon neutrality. The journal is set to debut its first issue in February 2026 and seeks to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy by promoting innovative research.

Focus on Groundbreaking Science and Real-World Impact

Watt will cover a range of topics including energy storage, conversion technologies, grid optimisation, carbon capture, and policy analysis. The journal is designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, emphasizing rigorous scientific research that has practical applications. This dual commitment places Watt at the forefront of addressing the urgent demand for effective solutions that are both scientifically validated and deployable in real-world scenarios.

The editorial team for Watt includes distinguished experts in energy research, ensuring that the journal adheres to the highest academic standards. Notable members include Dr. Rose Zhu, In-House Editor-in-Chief; Professor Sir Peter Bruce from the University of Oxford, UK; Academician Huisheng Peng of Fudan University, China; Academician Stefano Passerini from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany; and Dr. Kai Wu, Chief Scientist at CATL.

Innovative Framework and Submission Opportunities

The editorial standards of Watt are structured around a unique framework known as the “Five Highs.” This framework aims to ensure both excellence and impact in published research. These principles include: High Quality through a rigorous peer review process, High Reproducibility to verify experimental results, High Practicality for research with real-world applications, High Visibility via an open-access model, and High Diversity to incorporate a wide range of disciplines and perspectives.

The journal is currently open for submissions, inviting the global academic community to participate by submitting innovative research and joining as reviewers. Researchers are encouraged to share the journal within their professional networks to foster a collaborative environment aimed at advancing the energy transition.

Watt aspires to redefine the role of scientific journals by serving as a conduit between transformative research and scalable technologies. Beyond merely publishing articles, it aims to create a dynamic platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange, which is crucial for achieving a sustainable, net-zero future.

With its commitment to promoting impactful research and connecting scientists with industry, Watt is positioned to play a pivotal role in the global push for energy sustainability.
