Outrage Over Cronulla Train Cuts as Peak Hour Services Surge

UPDATE: The proposed removal of express train services from the Cronulla line has ignited heated debates among local commuters, with many expressing outrage. New reports confirm that if express services are eliminated, travel time from Cronulla to Town Hall could increase by 10-15 minutes. However, in a surprising twist, peak hour train frequency is set to quadruple to 24 trains per hour, significantly outpacing the metro’s offerings.

Commuters are urged to reconsider their travel plans as these changes take effect, which could mean leaving home earlier. Residents are questioning why this proposal has stirred more backlash than the M92 bus cuts in 2023, which eliminated a crucial link to Parramatta and went largely unnoticed.

Additionally, controversy surrounds Club Cronulla, where newly elected president Ted Torossian is facing criticism over claims of plans to sell bowling greens. Torossian has firmly stated that the club has “NO plans” for any sale, highlighting a profit over the past year and ongoing healthy operations.

Concerns about community infrastructure are also rising, as locals like Steve from Caringbah South point out that the increasing commercial activities in the area are not matched by adequate infrastructure improvements. This imbalance raises significant safety issues, particularly around schools and high-traffic areas in Cronulla, Woolooware, Caringbah, and South Caringbah.

As authorities prepare to address road safety, residents are demanding immediate action. Barbara, a local resident from Kirrawee, is calling for urgent road improvements near the public school on Clements Parade. She highlights dangerous bottlenecks during peak school hours, where traffic congestion poses serious risks to students and parents alike.

The local community is increasingly frustrated with the stagnant progress at the surf club since the council took over in December 2024. Reports indicate that the club has lost many junior members, leading to despair among regulars, as they await promised renovations.

As these discussions unfold, community members are urged to voice their concerns and participate in upcoming council meetings. The implications of these developments are far-reaching, affecting daily commuters, local businesses, and the overall safety of the community.

Stay tuned for further updates as local authorities address these pressing issues, and find out how these changes might reshape the future of transport and community well-being in Cronulla and beyond.
