Rebekah Power Crowned Fastest Woman in the World at 60m

BREAKING: Rebekah Power has just been crowned the fastest woman in the world for her age group, dominating the 60 metres at the recent Oceania Masters Athletics Championships held in Brisbane from September 6 to 10, 2025. The 46-year-old mother of two won an astounding five gold medals and one bronze, solidifying her reputation in the athletics community.

Power’s remarkable journey back into competitive running began just six years ago when she aimed to bond with her daughters, Ava and Ella, who also compete for Athletics Wollongong. Today, she stands as a beacon of inspiration, breaking a nearly 20-year Oceania record in the 60m with an impressive time of 8.13 seconds.

Her victories at the championships included gold in the 60m, 100m, 200m, and 400m individual events, along with a gold in the 4x100m relay. Additionally, she earned a bronze medal in the long jump, showcasing her versatility and talent across multiple disciplines.

The journey back to athletics was not always easy. After a 20-year hiatus, Power was motivated to return to training by her daughters and former coach Peter Murphy, who recognized her potential. “I think I had just turned 40 when I got back into training,” Power shared. “It provided a beautiful opportunity for bonding with my daughters.”

Power’s success this year also included winning four gold, two silver, and a bronze at the 2025 Australian Masters Athletics Championships in Adelaide over the Easter weekend. Her accolades don’t stop there; she previously secured a silver and bronze at the 2024 World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Now, as she prepares for future competitions, including another chance to represent Australia, Power emphasizes the importance of hard work and mental resilience. “Sprinting’s a brutal sport because there’s just no wriggle room. Working through the challenges provides opportunities,” she stated.

As Power continues to break records and inspire her daughters, she also hopes to instill values of perseverance and commitment in them. “If we’re going to achieve things in life, we have to work hard for them,” she remarked, highlighting the special bond formed through their shared passion for athletics.

This incredible journey of a mother achieving greatness while fostering her daughters’ talents is a story that resonates deeply, making Rebekah Power not just a champion, but a role model for many. Her achievements are a reminder that with determination and support, anything is possible.

Keep an eye on this champion as she gears up for her next competition and continues to inspire both young and seasoned athletes alike.
