URGENT UPDATE: A significant push for increased public school bus routes in the Point Cook area has been initiated by the Point Cook Action Group. President Karthick Thanigaimani is advocating for immediate enhancements to public transport services, stating that more school buses would greatly benefit local families and ease traffic congestion.
Thanigaimani emphasized the urgent need for action, stating, “It would definitely help to reduce the peak hour traffic in the area and avoid parking issues around the school.” The proposed increase in bus routes aims to alleviate the burden on parents who currently struggle with drop-offs, while also teaching children to navigate public transport safely.
Currently, the Wyndham area is served by several school bus routes, including services from Werribee South and Wyndham Harbour to Homestead Senior Secondary College and Alamanda K-9 College. A spokesperson from the Department of Transport and Planning confirmed that the government is actively monitoring demand for these services, stating, “We operate dedicated school buses and route buses across the state, including in Wyndham, to get students to school.”
The department regularly assesses its bus network to adapt to changing demand, with criteria in place to evaluate when additional services are necessary. Options for altering existing routes or adding new buses will be considered on a case-by-case basis, particularly for students who travel more than 3 kilometres to their zoned government schools and live further than 800 metres from the nearest bus stop.
This call for action comes at a crucial time, as parents and students face ongoing challenges with current transport options. Thanigaimani’s remarks reflect a growing concern among residents, highlighting the human impact of inadequate public transport. As the community pushes for change, the demand for improvements in school bus services becomes increasingly urgent.
Residents are encouraged to voice their support for this initiative as local advocacy groups work to engage with government officials. The community awaits a response from the Department of Transport and Planning regarding potential adjustments to the school bus services.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as Point Cook families advocate for better transport solutions that will enhance safety and accessibility for all students.
