Construction is actively progressing for the new primary school in Alkimos, a suburb in Perth, Australia, designed to accommodate the area’s rapid population growth. Named the Alkimos North East Primary School, the institution is on track to open its doors at the start of the 2027 school year. Initially, it is expected to enroll approximately 200 students, which is only about half of its full capacity of 540 students.
Ground works are already well underway at the site, which will feature various facilities including two double-storey classroom blocks, a single-storey block dedicated to education support, and sports courts. The school aims to relieve some of the pressure currently faced by nearby institutions, such as Shorehaven Primary School and Alkimos Beach Primary School.
Government Investment in Education Infrastructure
The Cook Government has allocated $45.5 million towards the construction of this new educational facility, a commitment first announced in January 2025. This investment reflects a broader governmental strategy to enhance educational infrastructure in Perth’s outer suburbs, which are experiencing significant population increases.
Ms. Winton, a representative from the government, expressed enthusiasm about the school’s development. “It’s really exciting to see this school slowly but surely come to life, which will be undoubtedly welcomed by the families that are moving into Alkimos,” she stated. Her remarks underline the importance of education in accommodating the needs of growing communities.
Meeting the Needs of a Growing Community
Alkimos is currently one of Perth’s fastest-growing areas, as highlighted by the latest census results. As more families choose to settle in the suburb, the demand for educational facilities continues to rise. Ms. Winton emphasized the government’s commitment to providing high-quality education infrastructure in areas where it is most needed.
“We are committed as a government to providing high-quality education infrastructure and ensuring that it is close to where families live,” she said. The establishment of the Alkimos North East Primary School is a direct response to the needs of the local community and a proactive step toward addressing educational demands in a rapidly changing demographic landscape.
As construction continues, the Alkimos community looks forward to the opportunities this new school will bring, enhancing educational access for families in the region.
