Urgent Drone Sightings Disrupt Danish Military Operations

BREAKING: Renewed drone sightings have been reported at multiple Danish military facilities overnight, escalating security concerns across the nation. The Denmark’s Defence Ministry confirmed that drones were observed near the Karup Air Base, Denmark’s largest military installation, raising alarms about potential threats amid ongoing investigations.

These recent sightings come on the heels of multiple drone incidents earlier this week, which temporarily disrupted operations at several Danish airports, including Copenhagen Airport. Authorities have received hundreds of reports from citizens about suspicious drone activity, yet many of these claims remain unverified. Public response has intensified, with citizens urged to report any unusual sightings to local police.

On Friday, October 13, around 8 PM, Simon Skelkjær, duty manager at the Central and West Jutland Police, reported drones flying both inside and outside the fence of the Karup Air Base. Though the airspace was closed to civil aviation briefly, it had minimal impact as no civil flights were currently taking place in Karup.

Despite the alarming situation, the Defence Ministry has not confirmed specific drone sightings at Karup or other bases, citing operational security. In a statement, they emphasized the need for discretion during the ongoing investigation. Earlier clarifications indicated that reports of drone activity at Skrydstrup Air Base and the Jutland Dragoon Regiment referred to sightings that did not occur overnight from Friday to Saturday.

The surge in drone sightings has heightened fears of security breaches in northern Europe, especially amid rising tensions with Russia. Peter Hummelgaard, Denmark’s Minister of Justice, stated, “The goal of the flyovers is to sow fear and division.” In response, the government is considering new legislation that would empower infrastructure owners to take measures against unauthorized drones, including the possibility of shooting them down.

In neighboring Germany, drone activity has also been reported in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt declared the threat from drones as “high” and announced plans to revise aviation security laws to authorize armed forces to intervene against drone incursions. “We must be prepared to protect critical infrastructure and large gatherings,” Dobrindt emphasized during a press conference in Berlin.

As the situation continues to develop, authorities are on high alert, and the public remains vigilant. The Defence Ministry is expected to release further updates as investigations progress. Stay tuned for more breaking news on this urgent matter as we monitor the situation closely.
