Free Pads and Tampons Now Available in Macedon Ranges Libraries

UPDATE: Free pad and tampon vending machines have officially launched in the Macedon Ranges, providing essential period products to women and girls in the community. Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas announced this significant development at local libraries in Woodend, Gisborne, and Romsey, emphasizing the immediate accessibility of these necessary items.

This initiative aims to address the pressing needs of women in the region, with over 100,000 packs of pads and tampons expected to be dispensed within the first six months. Once fully implemented, the program will see up to 1,500 vending machines installed across more than 700 public locations throughout Victoria, including libraries, hospitals, TAFEs, train stations, and other community hubs.

Local officials highlight the importance of this initiative. Amy Holmes, acting director of community services for the Macedon Ranges council, stated, “This initiative removes a barrier that many in our community face; many people in our community can’t always afford these necessary items.”

Holmes further stressed that pads and tampons are crucial for health and wellbeing, declaring, “By providing free period products, we are reducing shame, improving wellbeing, and setting the stage for equality for women in our community.”

The rollout also includes a vending machine at the Kyneton Town Hall, demonstrating the commitment of local councils to support women’s health and alleviate cost-of-living pressures.

As this initiative unfolds, residents are encouraged to access the list of locations where these vending machines are available at freepadsandtampons.vic.gov.au.

This urgent measure is not just about convenience; it represents a vital step toward ensuring that no one in the community has to choose between basic health needs and their financial security. Expect to see more machines rolling out across the state, making a significant impact on women’s health and equality.

Stay tuned for further updates as this program expands!
