Lifesavers Program 2025 Teaches CPR to 100+ at Lakemba Mosque

URGENT UPDATE: Over 100 community members gathered at Lakemba Mosque on September 27, 2025, for the Lifesavers Program 2025, a critical initiative aimed at equipping participants with life-saving skills. The program, organized by the Australian Islamic Medical Association (AIMA) in partnership with the Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA), was part of the global FIMA initiative and focused on teaching essential emergency response techniques.

Participants, including families, youth, and elders, engaged in a two-hour session immediately following the Dhuhur prayer. Attendees learned to perform bystander CPR, operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and manage choking emergencies. The session was driven by the Qur’anic principle that saving a life is akin to saving all of humanity, creating a profound sense of purpose among those present.

The training commenced with a concise presentation, swiftly transitioning into live demonstrations. Expert facilitators guided attendees through hands-on practice with mannequins, ensuring everyone developed confidence in their new skills. Statistics reveal that 80% of cardiac arrests in Australia occur at home, underscoring the urgent need for immediate action that can triple survival odds.

Khaled Kamalmaz, a senior representative from LMA, expressed the day’s significance: “Today showed what our community can achieve when faith and service come together.” He emphasized the collaboration with AIMA, stating it was a pleasure to provide families with practical skills that can save lives.

In a generous gesture, St John Ambulance not only facilitated the training but also provided ten lucky draw winners with free online courses in CPR or first aid. Attendees left with a straightforward checklist: call Triple-Zero, initiate chest compressions, apply the AED, and manage choking.

The event concluded with an enjoyable sausage sizzle, where participants exchanged notes and eagerly inquired, “When’s the next course?” This enthusiasm highlights the community’s commitment to maintaining the momentum gained from such vital training.

Lakemba Mosque was one of several venues hosting the Lifesavers Program on the same day, with similar gatherings occurring across various Islamic centers throughout Australia. This widespread participation marks a significant step in enhancing community resilience and preparedness.

As the Lifesavers Program continues to roll out, more communities are expected to benefit from this crucial training, turning everyday citizens into confident first responders. Stay tuned for further updates on upcoming sessions and community initiatives aimed at saving lives.
