Thousands Flock to Yorke Peninsula Field Days as Festivities Begin

UPDATE: The Yorke Peninsula Field Days have officially kicked off today, September 30, 2025, attracting thousands of eager attendees at the event site near Paskeville. This biennial three-day festival, running until October 2, is expected to welcome up to 30,000 visitors and generate an economic boost of between $5 million and $8 million for the local community.

Excitement buzzes as brothers Tommy and Harry McWaters from Koolywurtie were among the first to enter the gates. The event features over 500 exhibitors, alongside a variety of free activities and displays designed for all ages. As one of the oldest field days in Australia, dating back to 1895, this year’s gathering promises significant community engagement and celebration of local agriculture.

Dylan Strong, chief executive of the Copper Coast Council, emphasized the national importance of the event. “The YP Field Days showcase the innovation and strength of our farming community,” he stated. “It delivers a major boost to local tourism and hospitality, with places like Wallaroo Holiday Park fully booked.”

The Field Days not only support local businesses but also provide a platform for community groups to raise funds. The Paskeville Sporting Bodies will run canteens at the event, providing essential funds for local sports facilities and community maintenance. “Between 1,500 and 2,000 hours of volunteer work goes into this from our awesome community members,” said PSB president Marty Daniel.

The festivities were officially opened by Member for Grey Tom Venning, who reiterated the significance of farmers in daily life. “Everyone on the planet needs a farmer. You need a farmer every day, three times a day, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”

As the crowd grows, attendees are reminded to adhere to specific speed limits around the Field Days site, particularly after a recent accident involving a Kia sedan and a truck nearby. SA Police reported that while the truck driver was unharmed, the Kia driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

For those planning to attend, a free bus service is available daily, ensuring easy access to and from the event from Kadina, Wallaroo, and Moonta. The bus departs from multiple locations at 8:30 AM, 8:45 AM, and 9:00 AM, returning from the front gate at 4:00 PM.

With the Yorke Peninsula Field Days underway, the community is buzzing with excitement, showcasing the resilience and vibrancy of local agriculture and community spirit. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with local producers and enjoy a weekend filled with fun and learning!
