Gippsland East Study Hub Celebrates 5 Years of Educational Success

The Gippsland East Study Hub marks a significant milestone by celebrating five years of operation and the registration of over 500 students. An event to commemorate this achievement will take place on October 8, 2023, inviting all students who have completed courses through the hub. The celebration will feature an online appearance by The Hon. Fiona Nash, the Regional Education Commissioner, allowing participants to join virtually if they cannot attend in person. Those interested in participating are encouraged to register via the Trybooking website for catering and organizational purposes.

Growth and Educational Opportunities

Located in the historic site of the former Bairnsdale High School on Dalmahoy Street, the Gippsland East Study Hub opened its doors on November 6, 2020. Since its inception, the hub has seen a steady increase in enrollment, with approximately 130 students currently pursuing a range of 69 different courses offered by 48 educational providers. The courses available span from year 12 VCE to postgraduate doctorates, catering to the diverse needs of learners in the region.

The rich educational history of the site dates back to 1912, when it was first established as a private school. Following its transition to Bairnsdale High School in the mid-20th century, the location continued to serve educational purposes, initially through Bairnsdale Adult Community Education Inc. (BACE) and later the Gippsland East Learn Local Alliance (GELLA). Today, the site boasts over a century of achievement in education and lifelong learning.

Supporting Student Success

The Gippsland East Study Hubs are strategically located in Yarram, Heyfield, Omeo, Orbost, Mallacoota, Sale, and Bairnsdale, providing essential study spaces equipped with high-speed internet and computer facilities. Additionally, students can access tailored study skills support, available both in-person and online. These hubs are part of a broader initiative supported by the Australian Government through the Regional University Study Hubs program, aimed at enhancing educational accessibility in regional areas.

For those currently studying or looking to begin their educational journey, further information is available by visiting the hub’s office at 27 Dalmahoy Street or through their official website.

The celebration on October 8 is not only a reflection of the hub’s achievements but also a testament to its commitment to fostering educational growth and community engagement in the Gippsland region.
