Football Community Surpasses Fundraising Goal for Pink Game

UPDATE: The Black and Whites football community has achieved a remarkable victory by exceeding their fundraising goal during the highly anticipated Pink Game on October 7, 2023. The event raised over $6,000 for Griffith Can Assist, a local charity dedicated to supporting individuals in need.

After a two-season hiatus, the Pink Game returned to the club’s calendar, driven by a deep commitment to help those affected by cancer. Coach and organizer Shailyn Williams explained, “We initiated this around Cema (Toga) when she had to travel to Wagga for treatment. Within the team, I have been affected when I lost my grandmother to cancer.”

The emotional weight of the cause resonated throughout the community. Williams expressed pride in the overwhelming support, stating, “To get over $6,000 is double what I was expecting.” The funds raised will directly benefit local residents and strengthen community ties.

The day was filled with fundraising activities, including raffles and an auction of jerseys worn by the League Tag girls following their match against the Yenda Blueheelers. The enthusiastic turnout and generosity showcased the community’s spirit, as Williams noted, “When we have to come together for something, we do it.”

Olga Forner, president of Griffith Can Assist, shared her gratitude, stating, “It is terrific to have this kind of support. The girls have partnered with us to help someone in our community directly.” Forner emphasized the importance of such initiatives in sustaining their mission to provide essential support to those in need.

Williams also acknowledged the sponsors who contributed to the success of the event, remarking, “It takes a village to pull something like this off.” The collaboration not only highlights the impact of community spirit but also reinforces the importance of supporting one another during challenging times.

The Pink Game’s successful return demonstrates the profound effect community-driven efforts can have on local charities. As the funds continue to support Griffith residents, the Black and Whites football community is poised to keep this impactful tradition alive, proving that together, they can make a significant difference.

As more updates unfold, the Black and Whites are set to continue their commitment to charitable causes, reminding everyone of the power of unity and compassion in the face of adversity. Stay tuned for more developments surrounding future community initiatives and fundraising efforts.
