Development Victoria Cuts 300 Homes in Cairnlea Plan Update

BREAKING NEWS: Development Victoria (DV) has just announced a significant reduction in its proposed housing development in Cairnlea, eliminating over 300 homes from the initial plan. The revised proposal will now deliver approximately 500 homes on the previously planned sites at 147a Cairnlea Drive and 26s Glenbrook Avenue, down from an original total of 840 dwellings.

This urgent update comes in response to strong community feedback and concerns regarding density and local traffic congestion. DV’s acting executive general manager for housing, Nemesia Kennett, stated that the revised plan is designed to better meet community needs, emphasizing the commitment to ongoing communication as remediation progresses on the site.

“This development plan, shaped by community input, aims to provide a diverse range of homes to accommodate various needs,” Kennett said. The final plan will feature a mix of lot sizes and price points, addressing the pressing demand for more affordable housing options in the area.

Local resident and community advocate, Graeme Blore, expressed relief over the cut in density, stating, “This reduction is welcomed in a suburb already battling with traffic congestion.” Blore is advocating for an updated traffic management plan that considers the nearby COSTCO and other developments, ensuring that the community’s infrastructure can support the new homes.

The decision to pare down the housing plan follows a recent petition from residents urging for a broader range of housing options and the inclusion of a comprehensive multipurpose recreational facility. Blore highlighted the importance of such amenities, noting they would greatly enhance “the health, wellbeing and social cohesion of our community.”

As this situation develops, residents are encouraged to stay informed through updates from Development Victoria. The changes to the Cairnlea development plan are expected to have a lasting impact on the community’s landscape, addressing both housing needs and local congestion issues.
