Students from St Raphael’s School Embark on 16-Day Japan Tour

A group of ten students from St Raphael’s Catholic School in Australia is set to embark on an exciting adventure, departing from Sydney International Airport for a comprehensive 16-day tour of Japan. Accompanied by Principal Michelle Deschamps and LOTE Teacher Tamatha Olbourne, the students will explore various cultural and historical sites, gaining invaluable experiences during their journey.

Exploring Japan’s Rich Culture

The tour, which began on October 10, 2023, promises to immerse students in the vibrant culture of Japan. Destinations include Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, where they will visit iconic landmarks such as the historic temples and bustling marketplaces. This experience is designed not only to enhance their understanding of the Japanese language but also to foster friendships and create lasting memories.

Principal Deschamps expressed her excitement for the trip, stating, “This tour is a unique opportunity for our students to broaden their horizons and engage with a culture that is both rich and diverse.” The focus on cultural exchange is a key aspect of the journey, allowing students to experience daily life in Japan firsthand.

Building Lasting Connections

The students have prepared for this trip for several months, participating in various fundraising activities to cover travel expenses. Through bake sales and community events, they successfully raised over $20,000 AUD to fund their adventure. This initiative not only provided financial support but also helped strengthen the bond among the group.

As the students prepare to return home, they will carry with them not just souvenirs but also friendships and experiences that will shape their perspectives. The journey aims to instill a sense of global citizenship, encouraging the students to appreciate cultural diversity and promote understanding.

This educational initiative reflects the school’s commitment to providing students with opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. The enriching experiences gained in Japan are expected to inspire students in their academic pursuits and personal growth.

As they travel through Japan, the group is eager to share their experiences with their peers back home, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and the impact it has on young minds. The adventure is not just a trip; it’s a journey towards becoming more informed and empathetic global citizens.
