Allora Library Officially Opens as Community Hub

The new Allora Library officially opened on October 5, 2025, marking a significant development for the local community. The opening ceremony was attended by Southern Downs Region councillors and state members, including Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie, Southern Downs MP James Lister, and Mayor Melissa Hamilton. This new facility is part of a broader initiative known as the Allora Community Precinct project, which aims to enhance community engagement and improve local infrastructure.

The Allora Library has relocated to the former Allora Senior Citizens Centre, while the Allora Regional Sports Museum now occupies the building that previously housed the library. This strategic move is designed to create a centralized hub for community activities and services.

$770,000 was invested in the library project, with $600,000 sourced from the Works for Queensland program. The remaining funds were contributed by the Southern Downs Regional Council. During the opening, Deputy Premier Bleijie emphasized the project’s positive impact, highlighting that it created 16 local jobs during the construction phase and is expected to generate an additional 12 operational jobs once fully functional.

Community Benefits and Future Plans

The Works for Queensland program is set to receive $200 million over two years starting in 2027-28, ensuring the continuation of support for jobs and infrastructure in regional communities. Mayor Hamilton expressed her optimism about the new library’s role in fostering community connections and inspiring innovative ideas among residents.

James Lister noted that the Allora Precinct is poised to become a vital hub for local residents, enhancing the overall liveability of the town. He stated, “This project will not only provide a space for learning and resources but will also serve as a gathering point for community events.”

During his visit to the Southern Downs, Deputy Premier Bleijie also addressed concerns raised by locals regarding the condition of regional roads. He assured residents that he plans to discuss these issues with the Transport and Main Roads Minister upon his return to Brisbane.

The opening of the Allora Library represents a significant investment in community infrastructure, aiming to provide residents with improved access to educational resources and a space for engagement. As the project continues to unfold, the Southern Downs community looks forward to the benefits that this new facility will bring.
