Advent Secures Majority Stake in IT Services Firm Efex

Advent International has acquired a majority stake in the IT managed services company Efex from Alceon Private Equity. This deal marks a significant entry into a stable sector of technology investment. The agreement grants Advent exclusivity in the acquisition, further solidifying its position in the IT services market.

The partnership between Alceon and Efex began in December 2021 when they invested alongside founder Nick Sheehan. Since then, the company has grown through seven strategic acquisitions, enhancing its national presence. Brad Lynch, a partner at Advent, led the transaction, while Zac Midalia from Alceon managed the investment process.

Valued between $100 million and $200 million, this deal offers a substantial return for Alceon’s investors. Alceon originally invested at an enterprise valuation of $54.4 million less than four years ago, indicating the robust growth trajectory of the business.

Strategic Expansion and Services Offered

Under Alceon’s guidance, Efex has strategically acquired several companies to bolster its service offerings. Notable acquisitions include Sydney-based cybersecurity firm Datacom in May, as well as healthcare specialist Medihost Solutions, Wyscom from Canberra, Worldmark Corporate Consulting in Geelong, and Aish IT and Logic Plus from Adelaide. These acquisitions have contributed to a gross turnover of approximately $109 million in the 2024 financial year.

Since its inception in 2013, Efex has expanded its operations to 22 locations across Australia, serving around 7,500 clients, including small to medium-sized enterprises and government organizations. The company provides a range of services, encompassing IT support, data management, security, network monitoring, and procurement.

Sheehan will remain a shareholder and CEO of Efex, ensuring continuity in leadership as Advent takes on a more prominent role in the company’s future. This transaction underscores Advent’s strategy of investing in sectors with consistent demand and growth potential.

In summary, the acquisition of Efex reflects Advent International’s commitment to the IT services sector, leveraging existing market opportunities to enhance its portfolio and deliver value to clients across Australia.
