BREAKING NEWS: Global discount retailer Costco is set to revolutionize shopping in Perth as it announces plans to open its first store in the dynamic suburb of Alkimos. This new location will serve as the anchor for the Alkimos Central’s Home X Trade Hub, marking a significant milestone for the rapidly growing northern corridor.
The State Government has confirmed Costco as the anchor tenant, launching expressions of interest for additional commercial operators to join the 24-hectare retail precinct. This ambitious plan follows the recent announcement of a nearby 2.4-hectare development by Centauria, which will include a supermarket, childcare facility, and medical center, part of a larger $33 million retail and services initiative set to be completed by 2027.
Located next to the Alkimos Metronet station, this will be Costco’s third superstore in Perth, joining existing locations at Perth Airport and Casuarina. Chris Tingman, Costco’s country manager for Australia and New Zealand, emphasized the importance of the new store for the community, stating, “Costco sees Alkimos as dynamic and fast-growing and we believe we can bring great value to the community.”
The new store will offer a comprehensive range of goods and services, including discount fuel and specialty offerings such as pet and travel insurance. This development is expected to create numerous local jobs, enhancing economic growth in the area.
Planning and Lands Minister John Carey highlighted the significance of this project, emphasizing that forecasts indicate the City of Wanneroo could see its population nearly double by 2036. “The Home X trade hub at Alkimos Central will support local jobs, services, and economic development for years to come,” he said. “This is a prime opportunity for investors and businesses to secure land in one of Perth’s most dynamic and rapidly growing regions.”
Residential property values in Alkimos have surged from a median of $400,000 in May 2021 to an impressive $730,000 today, according to data from realestate.com. This rapid growth underscores the area’s appeal and potential for further development.
Local MLA Lorna Clarke expressed excitement about the new Costco store, noting that many families have voiced a desire for more shopping options closer to home. “I’m looking forward to having a convenient place for families to buy bulk and more local shops,” she stated.
Developers have indicated that the hub will offer flexible opportunities for tailored sites, whether individual or multi-lot acquisitions. Interested commercial operators must submit their expressions of interest by November 26, marking a critical deadline for potential partners in this thriving retail venture.
As the community anticipates this major development, it is clear that Costco’s arrival in Alkimos is not just a retail expansion; it’s a sign of economic vitality and growth in Perth’s northern corridor. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
