Two Men Steal $3,000 in Power Tools from Chiltern Property

URGENT UPDATE: Police are actively investigating a brazen theft at a rural property in Chiltern, where two men made off with tools valued at over $3,000. The incident occurred on September 25, targeting the property located on Horns Access Road.

Authorities report that the stolen items include high-end power tools from brands such as Hitachi, AEG, and Makita. The haul features a Hitachi radio, a 125mm angle grinder, drills, batteries, and various accessories essential for the victim, a tradesman in urgent need of his equipment.

Leading Senior Constable Lucy Smith described the crime scene as “adjacent to the southbound lanes of the Hume Freeway.” The property owner had surveillance cameras installed and has provided clear CCTV footage showing the two male offenders.

“It appears the offenders may have walked across paddocks and helped themselves to the power tools,” Smith stated, emphasizing the need for community vigilance.

In addition to this theft, police are also probing a car theft at the Springhurst train station and a bike theft at the Chiltern station. “It’s just a reminder for people using the train services to be extra vigilant,” Smith warned. Both the car and bike were secured, yet still fell victim to theft.

Authorities urge anyone with information, especially those who may spot individuals with numerous power tools, to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or reach out to local Rutherglen or Chiltern police.

Stay tuned as this investigation unfolds, and remain alert to help prevent further thefts in the community.
