Australian SAS Documentary “Bravery & Betrayal” Returns to Albury

UPDATE: A compelling new documentary, Bravery & Betrayal, detailing the experiences of the Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SAS) in Afghanistan, returns to Regent Cinemas Albury on October 30, 2023, at 6:30 PM. This urgent screening aims to shed light on the sacrifices made by SAS troops and support veterans through proceeds benefiting Wandering Warriors.

This documentary, five years in the making, is hitting screens again after a successful first showing earlier this year. Colonel Paul Burns, a retired SAS commander, emphasizes the importance of this film in restoring pride among soldiers and their families amid ongoing fallout from the Brereton Report, which investigated alleged war crimes by the Australian Defence Force between 2005 and 2016.

In light of the report’s impact, Colonel Burns stated, “Unfortunately, the media assault on the war crime allegations meant that everyone was tarred with the same brush.” He urges Australians to recognize and honor the bravery of all SAS members who served in Afghanistan, saying, “I want my soldiers to feel proud of their service.”

The documentary features interviews with over 30 veterans, political leaders, and family members, offering a raw insight into the SAS experience. It includes perspectives from the three Australian prime ministers during the conflict: Kevin Rudd, John Howard, and Tony Abbott. The film also highlights the emotional stories of families affected by the war, showcasing the human side often overlooked.

Colonel Burns believes this documentary will resonate with many Australians, especially those connected to the defence force. “It will tell a story of Australian bravery; it’s quite powerful and emotional,” he noted. The film includes a unique portrayal of military working dogs, adding depth to the narrative.

Tickets for the screening on October 30 are available through Eventbrite, with a panel Q&A scheduled following the film. This is a pivotal moment for Australians to engage with the realities faced by their soldiers, as Colonel Burns asserts, “Lessons must be learned so another Australian soldier never experiences what SAS troops have.”

Don’t miss this opportunity to witness an important chapter in Australian history. Book your tickets now to support our veterans and understand the true story of Bravery & Betrayal.
