Marion Dreyer Named Central Coast Community Champion for 2023

BREAKING: Marion Dreyer has just been awarded the title of Central Coast Community Champion for 2023, recognizing her unwavering commitment to community service through sports and social engagement. This announcement, made earlier today by Central Coast Mayor Lawrie McKinna, highlights Dreyer’s significant impact on local residents over the past seven years.

Dreyer, who has dedicated her time as the club captain of the Ettalong Pelicans Masters Swimming Club, has been a beacon of support for swimmers of all ages, promoting fitness and camaraderie. “It’s not just about swimming, it’s the social side and keeping fit,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of community connection.

Having taken up swimming in her late 40s, Dreyer quickly rose to compete at a high level, achieving personal bests, including a bronze medal in the Open Waters Swim at the Rockhampton Masters Championships in 2014, competing in the 65-69 age group. Her journey is a testament to her motto: “never say never and give it a go.”

In 2022, after facing two years of disruptions due to COVID-19, Dreyer led a formidable team of 23 swimmers aged 25-76 to a remarkable finish, placing seventh out of 84 teams at the Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre. This achievement marked one of the club’s most successful outcomes in years.

Dreyer’s influence extends beyond the pool. She organizes social events to foster connections among community members, ensuring inclusivity and support for those who might feel isolated. Known for her quiet energy and enthusiasm, she has earned life membership at the Ettalong Pelicans for her dedication and commitment.

Mayor McKinna praised Dreyer, stating, “Our Central Coast Community Champion initiative honors people who, through exceptional effort and commitment, make a difference to the lives of others.” He added, “Marion’s contributions are invaluable, and she has our deepest appreciation for her work.”

This recognition not only celebrates Dreyer’s achievements but serves as a reminder of the vital role that community champions play in enhancing the quality of life for others. With her inspiring story, Marion Dreyer is a shining example of how passion and dedication can transform lives.
