Fall Out Boy’s Joe Trohman to Undergo Hand Surgery

Joe Trohman, guitarist for the popular band Fall Out Boy, has announced that he will take the “rest of the year off” to undergo surgery on his right hand. The 40-year-old musician has revealed this decision through his Instagram account, emphasizing the necessity of the procedure to prevent “permanent damage” to his hand.

Explaining his situation, Trohman wrote, “After years of managing ongoing issues with my right hand, it’s become clear that I need surgery to avoid permanent damage. Unfortunately, this means I’ll have to take the rest of the year off from playing with the band.”

Band’s Tour and Trohman’s Recovery

Despite Trohman’s absence, Fall Out Boy has assured fans that all scheduled performances will proceed as planned. The band’s upcoming shows include a performance at the Cowboys Music Festival in Calgary, Canada, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, followed by another concert at the Minnesota Yacht Club in St. Paul, Minnesota, on July 19, 2025. Additionally, Fall Out Boy is set to headline two Summer Sonic music festival shows in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, in August.

Trohman expressed optimism about his recovery, stating, “The silver lining is that I’m on track for a full recovery. The band will still be playing all scheduled shows.” He also conveyed gratitude to the fans for their “love and support” during this time. “I’m looking forward to recovering so I can get back out there with the guys. Thanks so much for the love and support,” he added.

Previous Hiatus and Return to Band

This is not the first time Trohman has taken a break from the band. In January 2023, he stepped away to focus on his mental health. He returned in May of the same year, sharing his comeback on Instagram with a heartfelt message: “Hey everyone, I’m officially back! I want to thank everyone for the love and support while I took some time away to focus on my brain and get healthy for my family, my friends and myself.”

As of now, no replacement for Trohman has been announced by Fall Out Boy. The band’s ability to continue performing without interruption speaks volumes about their commitment to their fans and the close-knit support within the group.
