Rupertswood Welcomes Back Former Stars Ahead of 2024 Season

URGENT UPDATE: In a significant move for the upcoming 2024 Essendon District Football League season, Rupertswood has officially announced the return of several former players, igniting excitement among fans and players alike. Luke and Ethan Sultana, both key figures in the club’s junior history, are set to rejoin the team, with Luke previously recognized as the senior goalkicking champion in 2021.

This announcement comes just days before the season kicks off, heightening anticipation for Rupertswood supporters. The Sultana brothers, having honed their skills at other clubs over the past few seasons, promise to bring renewed energy to the Sharks. Luke’s experience at Airport West will be invaluable, while Ethan is expected to be a key asset after excelling in junior leagues.

Additionally, Sean Hetherington, a premiership player from Maribyrnong Park, along with Josh Ferraro and Ben Cannon, are also making their return to the Sharks. Their combined experience is set to bolster Rupertswood’s chances in the upcoming season.

In other sporting news, the Sunbury Softball Association witnessed remarkable performances in its second round of matches. The Calder Dragons dominated the Macedon Vixens with a staggering 17-2 victory, while the Goonawarriors trounced the Reservoir Rats 13-3. Highlighting the day was the triumphant return of Paris Latimer, who made her comeback after five years, showcasing her skills at first base.

In the men’s matches, the Goonawarriors continued their winning streak, defeating the Outlaws 23-8, while the Ratpack secured a solid victory over the Calder Dragons with a score of 17-5.

Turning to cricket, the Gisborne and District Cricket Association saw Riddell decisively eliminate Rupertswood in the Jensen Shield seconds competition. Riddell bowled Rupertswood out for a mere 66 runs, chasing down the target in just 11.3 overs to finish with 0-68. Key player Noah Cavanagh shone brightly, taking four wickets and leading his team to a swift victory.

Meanwhile, in the Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region, both Kyneton and Kyneton Golf remain undefeated after three rounds in the Highlands division 1 competition. Kyneton secured a commanding win against Woodend, scoring 89 (16)-33 (0), while Kyneton Golf triumphed over Trentham with a score of 79 (15)-54 (1). Other notable results include Diggers Rest achieving a clean sweep against Lancefield, and Gisborne overcoming Kilmore, while Romsey faced a loss to Broadford.
