URGENT UPDATE: A family in Lavington is in shock after a car crash at 3:41 AM on October 25 destroyed their mailbox and mangled their front fence. The incident occurred as an SUV lost control at the intersection of Kotthoff Street and Reid Avenue, leaving a scene of chaos in its wake.
The vehicle, identified as a BMW SUV from security footage, smashed through a solid fence before obliterating a cement letterbox and tearing through wire gates that were closed across the driveway. The homeowner, Craig Livingstone, was asleep with his wife when the alarming noise jolted them awake.
“A loud noise woke us up, I could hear it from the back bedroom,” Mr. Livingstone said. “It was a couple of big thuds.”
As Mr. Livingstone emerged from his home, he witnessed the SUV speeding away, sparks flying behind it. “I just thought ‘holy hell what’s going on here?’” he recalled, expressing relief that no one was injured during the chaos.
Mr. Livingstone, who has lived at the property since 1995, erected the damaged fence shortly after moving in and installed the mailbox just two years ago. Despite the property damage, his primary concern was for safety. However, he noted that the driver did not stop, leading him to suspect that the incident could involve drink or drug driving.
“It could have been an accident but from them taking off it’s definitely not an accident,” he stated, echoing police sentiments regarding the likelihood of impaired driving.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident, and the community is left reeling from the sudden and destructive event. The Livingstone family is now left to assess the damage and recover from this alarming wake-up call.
Stay tuned for further updates as police continue their investigation into this dangerous incident. Witnesses or anyone with information are encouraged to come forward.
