Mamre Road Upgrade: $1 Billion Project Set to Transform Traffic

A significant upgrade to Mamre Road in Western Sydney is moving forward with the release of early designs and an environmental assessment for Stage 2 of the project. The initiative, backed by the Minns and Albanese Governments, involves a substantial investment of $1 billion aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety along this critical road link.

The proposed changes will widen Mamre Road to two lanes in each direction between Erskine Park Road and Kerrs Road. This transformation from a suburban road to a major arterial route is expected to accommodate the projected increase in daily traffic, which is likely to double from the current 20,000 vehicles by the year 2041. The upgrade aims to support local community growth and improve access to key employment areas, including the upcoming Western Sydney International Airport.

Project Details and Community Involvement

The early designs reveal a 6.1 km route connecting St Clair to Kemps Creek, which will facilitate more reliable travel as Western Sydney continues to expand. The project builds on the already underway $290 million, 3.8 km Stage 1 of the Mamre Road upgrade, which is focused on enhancing connectivity between the M4 Motorway and Elizabeth Drive.

In an effort to engage the local community, authorities have released the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) that assesses the project’s potential impacts, including noise, traffic, air quality, flooding, biodiversity, and heritage. Community feedback is essential and will play a crucial role in shaping the final design, aiming to minimize adverse impacts.

The upgrade is designed to enhance travel efficiency and safety for residents and commuters alike. Pending planning approvals, construction is slated to commence in 2026 and is expected to be completed by 2029.

Broader Impacts and Future Developments

This upgrade is part of a larger strategy to improve transportation infrastructure in Western Sydney, which is experiencing rapid growth. Residents are encouraged to view the plans and environmental report and to provide their feedback by visiting the official Transport for NSW website at www.transport.nsw.gov.au/mamreroadupgradeS2.

Overall, the Mamre Road upgrade represents a critical investment in the future of Western Sydney, ensuring that transportation infrastructure keeps pace with the region’s expansion and evolving needs.
