UPDATE: The Keilor Sports Club has officially unveiled its newly renovated clubrooms, marking a significant milestone for the community. The grand opening took place on October 24, 2024, during a ceremony attended by Deputy Premier Ben Carroll, Brimbank Mayor Thuy Dang, local councillors, and club members.
The enhanced facilities, which began construction in October 2023 and were completed in just nine months, are already generating excitement among community members. Club President Hayden Kelly reported a surge in activity, stating, “The place is being used a lot more than it used to be, that’s for sure.”
Since the reopening in July 2024, the club has seen a remarkable increase in attendance, with life activities memberships rising by 10 to 15 percent. Kelly noted that both the football and cricket clubs are experiencing higher participation in their functions, indicating a revitalized community engagement.
The project, with a total cost of approximately $2.6 million, was funded through a collaborative effort between the club, members of the Keilor community, Brimbank Council, Melbourne Airport, and the state government. Kelly expressed profound gratitude towards community members and funding partners for their contributions, which included significant donations of goods and labor.
“The costs were initially quoted at $1.8 million, but with the generous support and in-kind contributions, we estimate that around $800,000 to $900,000 was donated,” Kelly explained. “In a way, it’ll pay for itself in a number of years.”
As the clubrooms officially open their doors, the community is encouraged to take advantage of the new facilities, which are expected to host a variety of events and activities in the coming months. Local officials and club leaders are optimistic about the positive impact this development will have on community cohesion and participation.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Keilor Sports Club continues to engage and support its members through these exciting new facilities.
