BREAKING: A devastating fire has ripped through My Crazy Life Barbers in Wodonga, confirmed as a deliberate and targeted attack by investigators. The blaze erupted around 10:45 PM on October 27, causing extensive damage and forcing the beloved local business to close indefinitely.
Co-owner Gino Coviello expressed his shock at the incident, while his partner Maddison Golding struggled to hold back tears as she described the emotional toll. “I’m devastated,” she said, reflecting on the shop’s hard-fought success since opening just six months ago. “We were doing really well.”
The fire, fueled by an accelerant, spread quickly, leaving the barber shop in ruins. Golding added, “We’re not sure when we’ll reopen. It still feels unsafe.” The community has rallied around the owners, offering emotional support during this challenging time. “It’s touched our hearts,” Golding noted.
Detective Ian Deverell is actively investigating the incident, describing it as a “deliberate, targeted offence.” He is seeking information from the public regarding any suspicious individuals or vehicles near the Sesame Lane property during the time of the fire. “Significant damage was caused to the business,” he stated, emphasizing the financial burden on the owners and their four employees.
Covello revealed that he only had basic insurance coverage, sufficient to cover windows but not the extensive damage incurred. “As a barber shop, I didn’t expect a crime like that,” he lamented. “It’s shocking for everyone.”
This incident has not only resulted in a physical loss but has also inflicted emotional pain on the community. “This sort of attack on a small business is heartbreaking for the owners,” stated Deverell. “It causes a substantial financial loss, not only through damage but also in wages.”
Authorities are reviewing security camera footage from the area as they continue their investigation. “We’re still looking into the reasons behind it,” Deverell confirmed.
As the community comes together to support the business, the future remains uncertain for My Crazy Life Barbers. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at (02) 6049 2600 or 1800 333 000.
