Kevin Durant Lauds Haliburton’s Passing in Pacers’ Rise

Kevin Durant has highlighted Tyrese Haliburton’s crucial role in the Indiana Pacers’ team chemistry, emphasizing his exceptional passing skills. Speaking on the Mind the Game podcast hosted by LeBron James and Steve Nash, Durant praised the unheralded talents of Obi Toppin and Aaron Nesmith for their contributions to the Pacers’ success.

Durant and NBA Stars Praise Pacers’ Cohesion

On the podcast, Durant explained how allowing players to express their individual talents has been vital for the Pacers. He credited Rick Carlisle, the team’s head coach, for fostering an environment that empowers players. Nash echoed this sentiment, noting Carlisle’s adaptability and steady leadership since rejoining Indiana.

James added that the Pacers’ players excel by focusing on their strengths. “That’s empowerment from the coaching staff, but it’s also empowerment from you as individual,” he remarked. This approach has allowed players like Toppin and Nesmith to shine without overstepping their roles.

Haliburton’s Passing: A Game-Changer

Durant singled out Tyrese Haliburton as the engine behind the Pacers’ offense. According to Durant, Haliburton’s ability to make quick cross-court passes significantly contributes to their offensive success. “What I love about Indy too, and what I think is an underrated factor, like Tyrese kicks the ball ahead,” Durant noted. This technique allows the Pacers to maintain momentum and effectively challenge defenses.

The podcast hosts agreed on Haliburton’s knack for exploiting defensive weaknesses with precise passes. Nash pointed out that Haliburton wastes no movements, and his efficiency minimizes turnovers and poor shot selections. Durant added, “Just efficient. Like all his moves just seem efficient.”

Despite not playing until the 2026-27 season due to an injury, Haliburton’s influence on the Pacers remains evident. Durant and the Mind the Game crew anticipate his return will only bolster the team’s championship aspirations.
