Coffeeweed Cottage Seeks New Owner in Lafayette

After two successful years in the Lafayette area, the popular Coffeeweed Cottage café is seeking a new owner. Owner Denise Champagne-McClure announced her decision to sell due to personal financial circumstances, although the café itself has thrived. Located in the neighborhood known as Fightinville, the café has become a cherished spot for locals and visitors alike.

Community Impact and Unique Location

The café, named after a slang term for chicory, resides in a 3,000-square-foot former mechanic shop. The area, sometimes called LaPlace, is steeped in Creole history and has seen increased interest from developers. This renewed interest might be partly attributed to the opening of Coffeeweed Cottage, which offers an eclectic atmosphere.

Champagne-McClure noted, “We have a great clientele. Business people schedule meetings there. We have Bible studies, and it’s a beautiful vibe.” The café serves as a community hub, sourcing products from local suppliers like Orleans Coffee and D.E.M. Cheesecakes.

Strategic Location and Growth Potential

Strategically positioned a mile off Interstate 90 and near downtown Lafayette, Coffeeweed Cottage benefits from steady foot traffic. “We do have some great regulars who walk to our coffee shop, which was really the goal for me,” Champagne-McClure said. Her vision was to create a spot where people could easily bike or walk to, enhancing community bonds.

The café’s renovations included new electrical systems, air conditioning, and large glass garage doors, transforming the old mechanic shop into a vibrant gathering place. Despite its success, the loss of Champagne-McClure’s second job has prompted the sale. She expressed hope that the new owner will continue to leverage the café’s untapped potential and further integrate with the neighborhood.

“At this point, I feel like it’s time for me to sell and for someone else to come, invest in it, and make it what it should be,” she remarked. The café’s integration into the community and its strategic location present a promising opportunity for future investors.

As Coffeeweed Cottage looks toward a new chapter, it remains a key player in the local coffee scene, inviting potential buyers to explore its charm and business prospects.
