UPDATE: A 19-year-old driver from Point Cook has faced serious consequences after boasting on social media about performing a dangerous burnout in front of police. This incident occurred during a car meet in Braybrook on October 19, 2023, and police have now impounded his Toyota Supra.
At approximately 3:30 PM, officers arrived at the event as the driver was allegedly mid-skid on Cranwell Street. Upon noticing the police, he attempted to escape the situation but was quickly issued a defect notice. Authorities had arranged for a tow truck to impound the modified vehicle; however, due to its alterations, the car could not be loaded.
In a shocking display of bravado, the driver took to social media to inform his followers that he had evaded the police. However, this defiance has led to further repercussions. On November 6, 2023, police issued a surrender notice to the teen, who will now face additional financial burdens.
According to police, the driver must pay to reclaim his vehicle after a mandatory 28 days and will also be required to remove the illegal modifications. He is expected to be charged with multiple offenses, including improper use of a motor vehicle, exceeding permitted dimensions, and operating a vehicle that does not comply with registration standards.
Police are taking a strong stance against such reckless behavior.
“It is extremely dangerous to perform burnouts, particularly around crowds of people where there could be disastrous consequences if you lose control,”
stated Westgate Highway Patrol Sergeant Johan Wisewould.
The implications of this incident highlight the dangers associated with street racing and reckless driving, especially in populated areas. As authorities crack down on these activities, this case serves as a cautionary tale for those who believe they can evade the law.
Stay tuned for further updates as police continue their investigation and enforcement efforts. This ongoing situation underscores the commitment to public safety and the serious repercussions of reckless driving.
