Maldon Folk Festival Celebrates 50 Years with Record Crowds

UPDATE: The 50th Maldon Folk Festival is officially a resounding success, drawing crowds and music enthusiasts to the historic town of Maldon, Victoria from October 31 to November 4, 2025. Festival Director Pam Lyons confirmed that the event is at capacity, with attendees reveling in a packed schedule of performances and community spirit.

Just days into the festival, Lyons noted, “It’s been really great. I think we’re at capacity.” The festival atmosphere is electric, with vendors already reporting sell-outs, including the popular ice cream and fudge shop. “I wouldn’t be surprised if all the food vendors have sold out!” she added.

Festival-goers enjoyed a myriad of performances across town, including poetry readings at the Holy Trinity Church and lively music at the Troubadour tent, set under the beautiful trees. The Machinery Museum hosted energetic sets, while Progress Hall welcomed large crowds for both renowned bands and local talent.

The streets of Maldon transformed into a vibrant hub of activity, with fans meandering from venue to venue, soaking up the energy from buskers, dancers, and spontaneous jam sessions. Morris dancing performances on Main Street featured acclaimed artists, including George Mann from the USA, alongside local legends Mick Coates and Matiss Schubert.

In her reflections, Pam Lyons expressed deep gratitude for the tireless efforts of community groups and volunteers, including the Maldon CFA, Victorian Goldfields Railway, Maldon Men’s Shed, and the Maldon Lions Club. “It’s exceeded expectations,” she stated, praising the festival’s world-class lineup. “The audience has been spoilt for choice.”

With gorgeous weather enhancing the experience, the festival’s success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. As the final days of festivities approach, attendees are encouraged to share their experiences and create lasting memories.

For those eager to catch up on the festival highlights, photos from the event are featured in the latest issue of the Tarrangower Times. Don’t miss out on this extraordinary celebration of music and community that has defined Maldon for half a century!
