Lark Hill to Host RugbyWA Grand Finals in 2025

RugbyWA grand finals will be played at the home of Rockingham Rugby Union Football Club this year.

The grand finals of Perth’s district rugby competitions are set for a new chapter as they move to Lark Hill for the first time in 2025. This decision marks a departure from the sport’s traditional western suburbs’ venues, despite the local Rockingham rugby club not competing in the top-tier league.

RugbyWA officials have designated Saturday, August 30, 2025, as the date for this grand final festival, promising a full day of rugby excitement. Known for its vibrant community support, Rockingham is currently excelling in the second-tier championship grade. With an impressive 11-1 record, they lead the ladder by four wins with six matches remaining. The club also shares the top position in community-grade rugby with an 8-2 record, while their under-18s and women’s teams each boast three victories this season.

Rockingham’s Rise in Rugby

The choice of Lark Hill, located in Rockingham, underscores RugbyWA’s commitment to broadening the appeal of the sport beyond its traditional strongholds. Although Rockingham’s top-flight absence might surprise some, their success in other competitions highlights their growing influence in the rugby landscape. The local community’s enthusiasm for the sport is palpable, contributing to the decision to host the finals in their hometown.

Last year’s grand finals took place at Hartfield Park in Forrestfield, the home ground of the Kalamunda Bulls. That event featured 17 finals across multiple fields, culminating in the Premier Grade clash which saw Associates clinch the championship over Palmyra. This year’s shift to Lark Hill is expected to bring a fresh atmosphere and perhaps a new set of challenges for the teams involved.

A Festival of Rugby

RugbyWA’s plan to transform the grand finals into a festival signifies their ambition to enhance the sport’s visibility and community engagement. By choosing Lark Hill, they aim to tap into the local fervor and attract new audiences to rugby. The decision also reflects a strategic move to distribute major sporting events across various regions, promoting inclusivity and regional pride.

As the date approaches, anticipation builds not just among the participating teams but also within the broader rugby community. The festival promises to be a celebration of the sport, offering fans a chance to witness thrilling matches and showcase the best of Perth’s district rugby talent.
