Explosions at Jakarta School Mosque Injure 54, Panic Ensues

BREAKING: Multiple explosions rocked a mosque at SMA 27 high school in Jakarta, Indonesia, during Friday prayers, injuring at least 54 people, primarily students. The blasts occurred around 12 PM local time, just as the sermon began, sending worshippers into a panic amidst the chaos.

Witnesses reported hearing at least two loud explosions as grey smoke filled the mosque located within a navy compound in the Kelapa Gading neighborhood. The immediate aftermath saw students and others fleeing, with many suffering cuts and injuries from flying glass shards.

Jakarta Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri confirmed that while the cause of the explosions remains unknown, investigators found toy rifles and a toy gun near the mosque’s loudspeaker. Authorities have dispatched an anti-bomb squad to the scene, intensifying the investigation to determine whether this incident was an attack.

“Police are still investigating the scene to determine the cause of the blasts,” Suheri stated. He urged the public to refrain from speculation until the investigation concludes, emphasizing, “Let the authorities work first. We will convey whatever the results are to the public.”

In the wake of the explosions, injured individuals were quickly transported to nearby hospitals. While some patients have been discharged, 20 students remain hospitalized, with three suffering from serious injuries, according to Suheri.

This shocking incident has prompted widespread concern among the local community, as parents and students grapple with the implications of violence in educational settings. Social media platforms are abuzz with reactions, as many seek updates and express their fears.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation unfolds. For now, the situation remains critical, and the community is urged to stay vigilant.

As developments continue, the focus will shift to the findings of the police investigation and the well-being of those affected. Stay tuned for updates on this alarming incident in Jakarta.
