Dutch forward Bente Jansen scored two quick goals in the second half, guiding Brisbane Roar to a thrilling 3-2 victory against Perth Glory in the A-League Women match at HBF Park, Perth, on March 15, 2024. This win marks another impressive performance for Jansen, who had also netted a goal in the previous match against Melbourne Victory.
The match began with Grace Kuilamu opening the scoring for the Roar in the 21st minute. Her powerful shot deflected off a Glory defender, putting Brisbane ahead. However, Rola Badawiya equalized for Perth just four minutes later with a stunning back-heeled effort that found the top corner of the net.
With the score level at 1-1, Jansen took center stage in the second half. In the 52nd minute, she put Brisbane ahead again after heading home a precise cross from Sharn Freier. Just three minutes later, Jansen struck again, completing her double with another assist from Freier, extending the Roar’s lead to 3-1.
Perth did not back down easily. In the dying moments of the match, Ella Lincoln scored for the Glory in the 92nd minute, setting the stage for a tense finish. The Roar’s defense held firm, relieved when Glory defender Onyinyechi Zogg failed to convert a close-range header in the final seconds.
Jansen, who joined the Roar from Dutch club AFC Ajax, has made an immediate impact with three goals in her first two matches. Reflecting on her performance, she stated, “In the second half, I got a little bit more space. I’m just happy to help the team. This time it’s me who scores the goals, but next time it’s someone else, and I’m just as happy to see someone else score.”
This win places Brisbane Roar in a strong position as they continue their campaign in the A-League Women, showcasing the potential of their new signing, Jansen, as they look to build momentum in the season ahead.
