George Kittle Declares Battle for 49ers vs. Rams Rivalry

The rivalry between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams reached new heights this week as 49ers tight end George Kittle expressed his intense feelings ahead of their upcoming matchup. Kittle emphasized the deep-seated animosity he holds for the Rams, a sentiment rooted in both personal and historical context.

This fierce rivalry began in 1950 and has evolved into a significant clash of identities, representing the grit of Northern California against the glamour of Southern California. Although the rivalry saw a lull for some years, it reignited after the Rams’ return to Los Angeles in 2016. Their success under head coach Sean McVay during 2017 and 2018 intensified the competition, culminating in the Rams’ victory over the 49ers in the 2021 NFC Championship. As of now, the all-time series stands at 79-71-3 in favor of the 49ers.

Heading into their Week 10 clash on November 8, 2025, the stakes are high. The Rams sit at 6-2, while the 49ers stand at 6-3, making this game crucial for positioning in the NFC West. Kittle spoke candidly about his experience facing the Rams, recalling how their early dominance in his career fueled his desire to overcome them.

“I don’t know, Rams Week is just intense because when I first got in the league, they were the best team in the division,” Kittle stated during an interview with NBC. “We lost our first four games to them or something like that. It just always made me want to beat them.”

This rivalry transformed for Kittle into a personal challenge that he embraces every time the teams meet. He noted that his drive to perform well against the Rams likely began in 2019, a year when he began to solidify his reputation as a formidable player.

Kittle’s success against the Rams has been notable, marked by several standout performances throughout the years. He attributes his ability to excel in these matchups to a specific mindset. “The only way to beat these guys is to mentally say—‘Screw it. I’m going to be really violent and physical today,’” Kittle explained, emphasizing the need for an aggressive approach against such a skilled opponent.

As the 49ers and Rams prepare for the game, both teams are eyeing a crucial win to bolster their playoff aspirations. The Rams are entering the contest on a three-game winning streak, largely due to the impressive form of quarterback Matthew Stafford and a defense that has held opponents to less than 10 points in three consecutive outings. Meanwhile, the 49ers, despite battling injuries, continue to be supported by a robust roster.

For Kittle, the significance of the matchup extends beyond mere statistics or playoff implications. When it’s Rams Week, the sentiment is deeply personal, underscoring the emotional stakes behind this storied rivalry. In a sport where intensity and physicality reign, Kittle’s declaration of intent to “be really violent and physical” serves as a testament to the fierce competition that defines the 49ers-Rams encounters.
