Marco Bezzecchi Secures Dominant MotoGP Win in Portugal

UPDATE: Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi has just secured a stunning lights-to-flag victory at the Portuguese Grand Prix, marking his second win of the season. This decisive performance strengthens his grip on third place in the championship with only one round left to race.

Bezzecchi dominated the race, making a remarkable comeback after finishing third in Saturday’s sprint. He led from start to finish on Sunday, leaving Gresini Racing’s Alex Marquez and KTM’s Pedro Acosta trailing behind, finishing over 2.5 seconds ahead of Marquez.

This victory is particularly significant as Bezzecchi is now the sixth different winner in the last six MotoGP races, intensifying the competition as the season nears its conclusion. Acosta, who showed impressive late-race pace, finished third but couldn’t quite catch Marquez.

Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia, currently embroiled in a championship battle with Bezzecchi, suffered a major setback by crashing out while in fourth place. He now finds himself 35 points behind Bezzecchi, marking his fourth consecutive Sunday retirement—a troubling trend for the two-time champion.

“It was a fantastic race for me. This morning I felt better, and yesterday evening we worked a lot in the box to try to find that last step that we missed,”

Bezzecchi stated after his victory. He expressed gratitude and excitement, admitting, “I was super afraid of Pedro and Alex because yesterday they were super quick, but I was also very motivated to try to get a win… I’m very happy, super important to be back on the top of the podium.”

The race also held emotional significance for Miguel Oliveira, as he bids farewell to the MotoGP circuit on his home turf, transitioning to World Superbikes after an impressive 15 years across Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP. Meanwhile, Australian Jack Miller finished in 12th place, nearly 30 seconds behind Bezzecchi.

The final showdown of the season is set for next weekend at the Valencia Grand Prix, where all eyes will be on Bezzecchi, Bagnaia, and the rest of the field as they vie for essential points in the championship.

Stay tuned for further updates as the MotoGP season concludes in Valencia!
