Whittlesea Council Announces Economic Growth Strategy 2026-2036

UPDATE: Whittlesea Council has just announced its ambitious Economic Growth Strategy for 2026-2036, aiming to secure a decade of prosperity for one of Australia’s fastest-growing municipalities. This new plan builds on the existing Strong Local Economy 2022-2026 framework and aims to align growth with the community’s long-term vision.

With the population projected to surge by more than 40% by 2040, the urgency for strategic economic planning has never been greater. Over the past five years, Whittlesea has created around 2,000 new jobs annually, yet employment growth is lagging behind the rapid population increase. The Council’s focus on this new strategy reflects a commitment to addressing critical employment demands.

The strategy will concentrate on four key areas: unlocking business growth and innovation, enhancing jobs, skills, and training, driving investment in infrastructure and industry, and fostering economic growth through culture and community connection. These areas have been identified through extensive consultations with over 60 stakeholders from various sectors, including business, government, education, health, and real estate.

Community engagement is set to begin in mid-November, where residents will have the opportunity to contribute to shaping this vital economic strategy. Whittlesea Council encourages all community members to register their interest and participate actively in the discussions that will define the region’s economic future.

As the council prepares for public consultation, residents are urged to stay informed and involved. For more information on how to participate, visit www.whittlesea.vic.gov.au.

This strategy not only promises to bolster the local economy but also aims to create a sustainable community where employment opportunities align with the needs of its growing population. The Council’s proactive approach demonstrates a clear recognition of the challenges ahead, positioning Whittlesea as a leader in economic development in Australia.

Stay tuned for more updates as community consultations unfold and this vital strategy begins to take shape.
