Rover Acquires Mad Paws, Expands Pet Care to Australia

UPDATE: Rover has officially completed its acquisition of Mad Paws, Australia’s leading online pet care marketplace. This strategic move, confirmed today, marks Rover’s expansion into the Australian market, significantly enhancing its global footprint.

The acquisition was finalized on November 3, 2025, following approval from Mad Paws shareholders and the Supreme Court of New South Wales. As part of the deal, Rover acquired 100% of Mad Paws shares, sending shareholders A$0.14 cash for each share held at the record date. Mad Paws shares were suspended from trading immediately after the deal’s closure and are set to be removed from the official list of the Australian Securities Exchange on November 12, 2025 (AEST).

This acquisition comes at a time when the Australian pet market is booming, valued at approximately A$30 billion. Rover sees a tremendous opportunity to connect with the growing number of pet owners in Australia, where Mad Paws currently supports over 300,000 active pet parents and 70,000 registered pet care providers. The Mad Paws platform facilitated over 400,000 transactions in 2024, underscoring its established presence in the market.

Brent Turner, CEO of Rover, emphasized the significance of this expansion, stating, “The closing of this transaction represents a significant milestone in Rover’s journey, allowing us to see and serve the unique needs of pets in a new continent.”

Meanwhile, Justus Hammer, Group CEO and Co-founder of Mad Paws, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We’re thrilled to officially embark on this partnership and ensure pet parents throughout Australia have access to reliable, trustworthy pet care whenever they need it.”

Rover plans to maintain Mad Paws as its own brand, headquartered in Sydney, Australia. This approach is expected to preserve the culture and customer base that Mad Paws has cultivated over its 11 years of operation.

With this acquisition, Rover is poised to tap into the vibrant Australian pet care market, furthering its mission of connecting pet parents with quality pet care services. This move not only broadens Rover’s operational reach but also enhances accessibility to pet care solutions for Australian pet owners, reflecting a growing trend in the global pet care industry.

As Rover integrates Mad Paws into its operations, pet owners can anticipate increased availability of services, from pet sitting to dog walking, tailored to meet local needs. Expect to see further developments in the coming weeks as both companies align their services and branding strategies.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the pet care sector!
