James Van Der Beek, known for his role in the iconic series Dawson’s Creek, is auctioning off memorabilia from his career to help fund his battle against cancer. The 48-year-old actor was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer earlier this year and is using the auction to alleviate the financial burden of his ongoing treatment.
The auction, hosted by Propstore, will take place from December 5 to 7, 2024, offering fans a unique opportunity to own items from Van Der Beek’s personal collection. All proceeds will go directly towards covering medical expenses related to his cancer journey. “I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them,” Van Der Beek said in an interview with PEOPLE magazine. He added, “With all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented, it’s clear that the time is now.”
Among the items available for bidding are wardrobe pieces, props, and set pieces from both Dawson’s Creek and the film Varsity Blues. Notably, the auction will feature the memorable necklace that Dawson gave to Joey for prom, along with Van Der Beek’s costume from the pilot episode of the beloved teen drama, which aired from 1998 to 2003. Bidders can also find items from Varsity Blues, including his film-worn West Canaan Coyotes hat and cleats.
The auction is designed to engage both local and international fans. Interested bidders can register now for the live in-room bidding event in London on December 6, with global bidding available until the end of the day on December 7.
Earlier this year, Van Der Beek made a virtual appearance during a Dawson’s Creek reunion event at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City, despite initially having to withdraw due to health issues. In a heartfelt pre-recorded message, he expressed his gratitude to fans and cast members for their support. “I have been looking forward to this night for months,” he shared. “Thank you for coming. It’s just absolutely humbling how much you did for this night.”
Fans of Van Der Beek and collectors of television memorabilia will have a rare chance to acquire significant pieces while supporting a worthy cause. The auction not only highlights the actor’s career but also raises awareness for the challenges faced by those battling cancer.
