Elizabeth Olsen has expressed her desire to reprise her role as the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The 36-year-old actress, who first appeared as Wanda Maximoff in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, has captivated audiences with her portrayal up to the character’s apparent demise in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In a recent interview with The Playlist, Olsen stated that she would return to the MCU “in a heartbeat,” although she remains uncertain about when or how this might happen.
When questioned about her potential return, Olsen commented, “I’ve been really proud of what we’ve been able to make. Really proud. But I don’t have an answer for that.” She clarified that she is not involved in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. Although fans may speculate about her involvement in the blockbuster, Olsen remarked, “Well, I can’t. Honestly, I do wait. I want to see [her] return in this role because I think what they’ve done with her is really great.”
Olsen has a longstanding affection for her character and the franchise. Previously, she noted that she would “always” want to come back to the MCU, expressing feelings of both luck and trepidation when joining the superhero franchise over a decade ago. During an event at the Hamptons International Film Festival, she told attendees, “It is something that I love, and it’s something I always want to return to.”
She emphasized the importance of character development, stating, “I think the thing that’s been so special about the last five years is I’ve gotten to do so much with the character that I never thought I would.” Olsen highlighted ongoing storylines from the comics that she believes fans would appreciate seeing adapted on screen. “I mean, these movies aren’t for critics, these movies are for fans,” she added.
While there has been discussion about superhero fatigue among audiences, Olsen remains enthusiastic about the genre. She noted, “It’s really fruitful, and the stories have only gotten better for me, my character. I really enjoyed it.” Reflecting on the unique nature of franchise involvement, she remarked, “Very few, I feel like, get to be a part of franchises that we might culturally get a little bit exhausted by, but there is something about them that becomes very familial.”
Olsen appreciates the stability that comes with her role in the MCU, stating, “There’s nothing else really like it, and I don’t know that I’ll have [that] again unless it’s for an ongoing show. I do like that kind of consistency. It feels good. I mean, job security feels nice — I think we can all agree on that.”
As fans eagerly await news about the future of the Scarlet Witch, Olsen’s passion for her character ensures that discussions about her return will remain lively in the entertainment community.
