85-Year-Old Woman Killed in Garbage Truck Incident in Queensland

An 85-year-old woman has tragically died after being struck by a garbage truck in the Townsville suburb of Bushland Beach, Queensland. The incident occurred on Daintree Drive shortly after midday on March 15, 2024. Emergency services responded promptly, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Underway

The forensic crash unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Neighbours expressed their shock at the event but chose not to comment further when approached by media representatives.

Joe McCabe, the chief executive of Townsville City Council, acknowledged the seriousness of the incident. “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those impacted,” he stated. He confirmed that the council is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

Due to the sensitive nature of the situation, McCabe indicated that the council would refrain from making additional comments at this time. “Out of respect for those involved and due to the ongoing investigations, council will not be making further comment,” he added.

The Queensland Police will assist Workplace Health and Safety Queensland in their inquiries. A report will be prepared for the coroner, which will help clarify the details surrounding this tragic event.

As the investigation progresses, the community remains in mourning for the loss of the elderly woman, highlighting the importance of safety on local roads.
