Unique Googong Home with Climbing Wall Hits Market at $3 Million

A distinctive property in Googong, Australia, featuring a climbing wall and squash court, has been listed for sale at $3 million. The house, located at 89 Mount Pleasant Drive, represents a significant transformation from its origins as a vacant lot purchased by Cherie and Stephen Croft for $567,000 in 2017.

The Crofts invested considerable effort into constructing “the barn,” a spacious home designed to foster an active lifestyle for their family and community. “We saw this as a blank slate and thought we could build something really fun,” Cherie Croft remarked about their vision for the property.

Upon entering the home, visitors are greeted by a striking 10-meter climbing wall, equipped with certified auto-belay systems for safety. Adjacent to this feature is a squash court built to official competition dimensions, a nod to Stephen Croft’s childhood experience playing for the ACT. The property also includes a full-size basketball court, a tennis court, and amenities such as an ice bath, sauna, and spa.

Community-Centric Design

The Crofts designed the home not just for their family but as a communal hub for children in the area. Cherie Croft expressed her desire for her children to experience the same community-centered upbringing she enjoyed, noting, “When we moved out there, our kids quickly found a community of friends.” The home became a favorite meeting spot for local children, leading to the installation of gates between properties to facilitate easy access.

Despite its unique features, the house maintains a compact layout, with four bedrooms, including an en suite in the main bedroom, and a living and dining area on the top floor. Cherie Croft acknowledged that while the living spaces are relatively small, the focus on sports and community engagement has defined their living experience.

Looking Ahead

As the family prepares to leave their beloved home, they are excited about the prospect of relocating to Queensland, closer to family. “We wanted a bit of an adventure and to try something different,” Cherie said, reflecting on their decision. Although they have no immediate plans to replicate the unique features of their Googong house, they remain open to the possibility if their new home does not meet their family needs.

With the property now on the market, the Crofts are curious about who will next call this one-of-a-kind home their own. “It really just has to be us, but just a different family,” Cherie Croft concluded, highlighting the emotional connection they have to the space.

The listing of this extraordinary residence not only showcases innovative design but also emphasizes the importance of community and active living, appealing to potential buyers seeking a unique lifestyle opportunity.
