UIA Victoria Launches Record-Breaking $18.1 Million Campaign

URGENT UPDATE: The United Israel Appeal Victoria has just launched its record-breaking campaign for 2026, announcing an impressive $18.1 million raised already, surpassing last year’s total of $17.8 million in a single year. This milestone was revealed during the annual general meeting held on Sunday evening in Melbourne.

David Slade, Victorian President, highlighted the outstanding contributions from the community, stating that UIA Australia has mobilized over $140 million since October 7, with Victoria alone contributing $60 million. This surge in fundraising comes amid ongoing challenges faced by Israel, particularly following the recent conflict.

In a remarkable show of solidarity, the Melbourne community raised $1 million in just one week to support those affected by the recent conflict, showcasing the urgency of humanitarian needs.

“While the living hostages have returned home, UIA’s work continues as Israel faces long-term rehabilitation challenges,”

Slade stated, emphasizing the ongoing need for support as communities strive to rebuild.

Slade noted that in the South, 95 percent of residents have returned home; however, 30 percent of them are contemplating leaving due to safety concerns. The situation is even more precarious in the North, where communities evacuated during the war have yet to return.

The priorities outlined by UIA include rebuilding communities, addressing psychological trauma with early intervention programs for returning reservists and civilians, facilitating Aliyah and absorption, and providing essential care for Holocaust survivors. Slade expressed the organization’s profound responsibility, stating, “As the largest remitter of funds to Israel from Australia, we carry the weight of this responsibility with deep care and deep pride.”

In a significant leadership transition, Esther Frenkiel is stepping down as the outgoing UIA Australia President after a challenging tenure since 2021. Andrew Boyarsky from NSW will succeed her. Frenkiel reflected on her term, describing the past two years as the “most challenging and defining” in collective memory.

“Since October 7, the needs across Israel are enormous, and I’m so proud that UIA has been on the ground since day one,”

Frenkiel said, highlighting the transformative impact of UIA projects on lives.

As the campaign gains momentum, the UIA Victoria is poised to make a significant difference in the lives of many, underscoring the importance of communal support in times of crisis. Stay tuned for further updates as this critical initiative unfolds.
