Jacob Farrow Joins Essendon Bombers as Top Draft Pick

Footy enthusiast Jacob Farrow, known for his extensive collection of guernseys from all 18 Australian Football League (AFL) clubs, has officially joined the Essendon Bombers as the top draft pick from Western Australia. Selected with pick number 10 during the AFL Draft held at Marvel Stadium on March 6, 2024, Farrow represents a significant addition to the Bombers’ roster.

Farrow’s journey to this milestone has been nothing short of extraordinary. After being overlooked for the State’s under-18 program last summer, he has quickly transformed into an All-Australian and a first-round draftee. At just 18 years old, he is one of three players drafted by Essendon within the first 13 selections, alongside Dyson Sharp, the South Australian captain picked at No. 13, and Sullivan Robey, who was selected at No. 9.

The young defender expressed his excitement about joining Essendon, particularly after hearing his name called out. “I just cannot wait to get stuck into it, really,” he said. “I wouldn’t have had any hard feelings about any of the teams that I landed at but I’m stoked to be at the Bombers with these two blokes (Robey and Sharp) as well.”

Farrow’s skillset includes a reputation as a smooth mover out of defence, and he looks forward to learning from fellow West Australian and new teammate Nic Martin. “He’s a good player and that’s my role as well. Players like that I will learn off,” Farrow noted, highlighting the advantage of having familiar faces like Kayle Gerreyn, his former teammate at West Perth.

As Farrow embarks on this promising chapter in his career, he has set his sights on making his AFL debut early next season. “I will just keep seeking feedback on what I need to work on, and if I can keep improving those little parts of my game, then I am really excited for where I can take my footy,” he said.

Farrow’s determination and enthusiasm could mark the start of a noteworthy career, not just for himself but also for the Essendon Bombers as they look to build a competitive team for the upcoming season.
