The annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at the Rosalind Park Piazza is set to begin tonight at approximately 20:45. The event, which marks the start of the festive season in Bendigo, will feature a variety of activities including roving Christmas characters, face painters, entertainers, and live carols performed by singer Ally Gook. Festivities will commence at 18:30.
Jess Howard, the Director of Healthy Communities and Environments for Greater Bendigo, emphasized the significance of the tree lighting as a cherished tradition. “The traditional lighting of the tree marks the start of the festive season, so it’s an exciting time for the community,” she stated. The illuminated tree will be visible every evening, creating a festive atmosphere in the city.
In addition to the tree lighting, the iconic Bendigo letters have received a festive makeover, enhancing the photo opportunities available for visitors both during the day and at night. Shoppers will also benefit from twilight shopping, with select stores in View Street, Bath Lane, and Chancery Lane open until 19:00. Howard encouraged residents to gather their families and friends to celebrate this vibrant community event.
