UPDATE: The highly anticipated WA Day Festival 2025 has officially kicked off at Burswood Park, bringing together hundreds of families for an action-packed celebration of Western Australia. The festival began yesterday, July 5, and promises two days filled with thrilling activities, live entertainment, and scrumptious food options.

Families flocked to the park to witness breathtaking performances, including a show-stopping display from Hardwired BMX. Among the performers was six-year-old Ziggy, who captivated audiences with his fearless BMX tricks, earning him the title of fan favorite.

At the Spudshed Stage, Channel 7 personality Rick Ardon was seen experimenting with a unique twist on the classic spring roll by filling them with haggis, sparking curiosity among festival-goers. The festival’s bumper cars were particularly popular, with lines forming early and remaining steady throughout the day.

In addition, RAC rescue choppers were on display, allowing attendees to explore the cockpit and even try out virtual reality goggles to simulate emergency scenarios. The atmosphere was electric, with cheers echoing from Optus Stadium, where the Ashes cricket match was underway just a stone’s throw away.

Families like the Greaves family took a break from rides to catch some cricket action. Young Mackenzie, 4, enjoyed her ice cream while 8-year-old Maddison proudly displayed her glittery dolphin face paint. Their mother, Rachel, said, “We initially came for the mascot race, but with Dad at the Ashes, we decided to make a full day of the festival.”

The Hancock Iron Ore Innovation and Education Alley featured stalls with interactive activities, igniting the curiosity of children. Five-year-old Esther Prentice, visiting from Melbourne, was particularly thrilled to teach a robot dog tricks at the Alcoa tent. Her dad, Cain Prentice, described the event as “a day of family fun.”

Meanwhile, ten-year-old Sophia Brazier eagerly participated in gold panning at the Perth Mint stall, hoping to strike it rich. Her mother, Jessica Brazier, expressed her excitement about exploring local attractions with her children, calling it a “great day out.”

As the festival continued, a wide variety of food options, including chips on a stick, gozleme, and sausage sizzle, kept attendees satisfied. The vibrant atmosphere was enhanced by entertainers from Fliptease, who performed stilt walking and interactive games, delighting all ages.

Clare Shaw, a festival attendee, praised the event, stating, “It’s been a big family fun day. It’s been done really well, in a really great location, with heaps of room and good food options.”

As night fell, the festival concluded its first day with exhilarating live music, a stunning drone show, and fireworks that lit up the sky. Homegrown artist Drapht brought the evening to a close, leaving attendees eager for day two.

The WA Day Festival continues today, July 6, with even more exciting activities planned. Don’t miss out on this incredible celebration of community and culture!
