Corowa-Rutherglen Secures ‘Dream’ Signing of Will Chandler

BREAKING: Corowa-Rutherglen has just announced a sensational return for junior star Will Chandler, marking a major milestone for the Ovens and Murray Football Netball League. This feel-good signing comes after Chandler’s impressive five-year stint at SANFL club Glenelg, where he played a pivotal role in their thrilling five-point grand final victory over Norwood in 2024.

Chandler, who turns 24 next month, made a significant impact during his time at Glenelg, playing 44 senior games and scoring 34 goals, including a standout performance in last season’s grand final loss to Stuart. His unforgettable match-winning smother in the 2024 grand final has left an indelible mark on the hearts of Tigers fans.

In a press release, the Roos expressed their excitement about Chandler’s return, stating, “Will developed into an explosive forward renowned for his pressure, athleticism, and ability to influence big moments.” His history with Corowa-Rutherglen is rich; he debuted at just 15 years old, netting five goals against Wangaratta Rovers in 2017 while still in school.

Chandler’s journey has seen him not only shine on the field but also earn accolades, including the under-16 best and fairest award in the Albury Wodonga Junior Football League. Over his early career, he played five senior games, scoring 18 majors, showcasing his potential from a young age.

The Roos are now poised to field one of the most dynamic forward lines in the league, featuring Chandler alongside Doug Strang medallist Kaelan Bradtke and former Norwood forward Izaak Twelftree. The chemistry between Chandler and Twelftree is particularly intriguing, as they faced off in the tense 2024 decider.

Chandler’s return to Corowa-Rutherglen exemplifies the dream scenario for any club—developing a talent, allowing them to gain experience in a top league, and welcoming them back in their prime. This strategic move not only enhances the team’s prospects but also reignites hope among fans eager to see their favorite son back in action.

Stay tuned for more updates as Corowa-Rutherglen prepares to unleash their explosive forward line this season. The excitement surrounding Chandler’s return is palpable, as fans eagerly anticipate his contributions on the field.
