Artist Kirsten Sivyer Captures Light in Stunning New Works

BREAKING: Renowned artist Kirsten Sivyer is gaining immediate attention for her captivating oil paintings that explore the interplay of light and smoke. Based in Western Australia, Sivyer’s innovative approach has captured the hearts of art enthusiasts and collectors alike, making her work a must-see right now.

In a recent interview, Sivyer revealed how her childhood passion for drawing animals evolved into a successful career in fine art spanning over a decade. Initially discouraged by her parents regarding the financial prospects of an art career, Sivyer defied expectations and pursued her dream. “I wanted to study art when I left school,” she stated, “and obviously I beg to differ as it’s been my career for well over a decade now.”

Today, Sivyer resides in the Goldfields region of WA, where she draws inspiration from the vast landscapes around her. Utilizing her photography skills acquired while working for a local paper, she captures stunning images that serve as references for her paintings. “I also started working as a photographer for the local paper and while I wasn’t selling much art I did win a few awards which helped things along,” she shared.

One of the defining features of Sivyer’s work is her fascination with the effects of smoke on landscapes. This unique inspiration has led her to chase the mesmerizing optical phenomena that arise during smoky atmospheres. “In essence, I was chasing the smoke,” she explained, emphasizing the surreal light effects that inspire her creativity.

Her technique combines “hard and soft edges,” creating a balanced, hazy effect that evokes deep emotional responses. “The atmosphere of the light makes me feel something, and I can’t really put it into words, so I put it into paintings,” Sivyer expressed, highlighting the nostalgic feelings her art evokes.

Sivyer’s preferred medium is oil on canvas, which she finds allows for an incredible texture and luminosity. “Oils are just so beautiful as they allow you to build up texture and create beautiful light effects,” she stated. This mastery of oil painting has made her work stand out in the competitive art landscape.

As a regional artist, Sivyer also understands the importance of expanding her market reach. She regularly takes on commissions from private clients, with each piece taking weeks or even months to complete. “I can do more than half a dozen commissions a year,” she noted, ensuring that there is always a commissioned painting underway, alongside her personal projects.

Whether she is engaged in teaching art, painting her own masterpieces, or fulfilling commissions, Sivyer’s commitment to her craft remains unwavering. Her works not only capture stunning visuals but also convey powerful emotions tied to light and nature.
