BREAKING: West Coast Eagles’ Ella Roberts and Fremantle Dockers’ Mim Strom have been honored with All-Australian selections for the second consecutive year, as announced earlier today. Additionally, Gabby Newton has received her first All-Australian nod after an outstanding season in Fremantle’s midfield.
This recognition comes as the AFLW gears up for its finals series, with Roberts playing a pivotal role in leading West Coast to their maiden finals berth. The 20-year-old averaged an impressive 24 disposals, seven tackles, and four clearances per game, making her the first Eagle to achieve multiple All-Australian selections.
“I just always want to improve and each and every year, I get to the end of the season and just can’t wait for the next year because I know what I can improve on,” said Roberts.
Strom, standing at 184 cm, has solidified her position as the leading ruck in the league. She recorded the third-most clearances of any player this season, showcasing her dominance both in the air and at ground level. Fremantle’s head of AFLW, Claire Heffernan, praised Strom’s consistent performance.
“Year on year, Mim continues to elevate her influence both on and off the field… to be recognized as an All-Australian for the second year in a row is thoroughly deserved,” Heffernan stated.
Newton, aged 24, has thrived in her second season at Fremantle after moving from the Western Bulldogs. Her selection on the All-Australian bench is a testament to her significant contributions in the midfield.
“Her growth since arriving at our club has been immense, and this selection is a fantastic reward for the work she’s put in,” Heffernan added.
This announcement not only highlights the individual achievements of these players but also reflects the growing competitiveness and talent within the AFLW. Fans are encouraged to celebrate this momentous occasion as the league continues to gain traction and recognition.
Looking ahead, the focus will shift to the upcoming finals, where these elite players will aim to contribute to their teams’ success. Stay tuned for more updates as the AFLW playoffs approach!
